Artsy Parkour Video

It has been brought to my attention by Jon who hangs-out over at New England Parkour that the above IS NOT a Parkour video. It’s clearly a Free Running video by all definitions. Being ignorant on the subject, I had always just assumed that Free Running and Parkour were the same thing. I thought it was one of those European vs American terminology issues, like Soccer vs Football. Not the case though.

Here’s the basic definitions of the two:

Parkour (Info from Parkour.net)
An art to help you pass any obstacle; to go from point A to point B using only the possibilities of the human body. This art originated with French soldiers in Vietnam and was developed by David Belle, inspired by his father.

Freerunning or Free Running (Info from NEParkour.com)
An art form used to pass obstacles that encompasses all movement, including flips, spins, and various acrobatics. Unlike a traceur, a freerunner is not concerned with where he is going, rather what he can do with his current surroundings.
